Lee Marine - yacht brokerage and local insight
The organisers of the Thailand Yacht Show caught up with the team from Lee Marine to find out a little bit more about what they do - the brands they work with and gained some local insight too.
Lee Marine will be displaying an impressive 15-strong line-up, including 9 superyachts and 6 boats at the Thailand Yacht Show, taking place from 15-18 December at Ao Po Grand Marina. Be sure to stop by and meet the team!
1. Please tell us about the yacht brands you represent where your offices are present in Asia?
Lee Marine is pleased to offer many of the most highly regarded names in the yachting industry. We represent Ferretti Group Yachts with their Custom Line, Pershing and Riva models as well as Riviera Marine and Cantiere delle Marche. We are based in the beautiful Ao Po Grand Marina which is also the site for the Thailand Yacht Show. We have six full time experienced brokers working as a team to maximise the potential of any listing and pride ourselves on offering a comprehensive, prompt and professional service to all those who enquire with us.
TYS: What makes your dealership stand out among your peers? What types of bespoke services do you provide?
We have 20 years of experience in Thailand and are proud of the specialist expertise we offer in this part of the world, not only in terms of yachts sales but also with the yacht management services we provide. Our focus is providing first-class, personalized service and are very proud to have the strongest understanding of the marine industry in this part of the world.
TYS: How has the boating market developed in the past 10 years and have your client’s tastes/needs changed over that period of time?
The market has grown tremendously over the past 20 years as clients look for larger and larger yachts well over 24 meters. However, whether pre-owned or new, clients are always eager to make sure they get the best value for their money. The market is also opening more and more towards custom construction. The bespoke yacht encompasses the ideal for the ultimate dream vessel. Clients are getting involved in every step working with the brokerage firm and builders and are a very discerning clientele.
Thailand, and Asia overall to a certain extent is continuing to reach new heights in marine and yachting global recognition. “We feel that we are just touching on what is constantly growing into a bigger, more exciting Asian market. We nurture our company carefully, keeping a sharp focus on quality care and our client’s top satisfaction.”
Joshua Lee, Founder and CEO of Lee Marine International Marine Brokerage.
TYS: What are the new trends you are observing in the boat / yacht sale market either in terms of technical requirements, design, entertaining and/or ecological friendly options?
Yacht enthusiasts are looking to slow down and yet go further. Experienced charters and buyers are looking at longer range vessels with heightened stability and tend to look at quality builds that will last the test of time. They are also looking towards vessels with unique designs that stand out against the sea of vessels in many marinas. More time with family, on longer cruises, providing the ability to see more and also entertain on board are trends we are observing right now.
TYS: Can you offer any advice to a client who is looking at purchasing their first boat?
Find a good broker that is experienced with yachts first. At Lee Marine the team takes time to listen to the clients’ personal requirements and simply does not push the first boat that comes along.
TYS: How do you approach the process of helping a client identify which boat is right for them? What are the steps and how does your team support the client throughout the process?
It’s a careful process that begins with getting to know the client, and to understand how they want to use the boat and what their priorities are.
TYS: Do you see particular growth, or interest in, used vessels? What about the strength of the charter market if you offer charter as well?
The brokerage market remains relatively steady over the past 20 years in Phuket and the overall area, however we have noticed that clients are looking at larger yachts and this is a certain trend. Thus, the market is looking less towards vessels for weekend jaunt, and are searching for bigger more comfortable yachts.
